Thinking as to how to quit a teaching job? This is probably one of the most difficult decisions any teacher will ever make. Like other professions, quitting and leaving is a very difficult phase and requires much thought and preparation. We being professionals, even with countless stress in our workplaces and whatever the reason behind it, there is always a polite way to get out and leave your work.

Leaving a job particularly teaching involves many steps that every educator should do. These things, will then demonstrate your professionalism and ethics value. Even those who leave due to bad terms must do things discerningly. You should never leave teaching by simply being absent from all of your classes and will no longer attend school. This is very unethical and will reflect your personality. There is always a formal and standard procedure to follow, and I'll show you how.

Procedure #1: Give notice. The school and administration must be informed that you will quit teaching. As much as possible, consider leaving at the end of the school year. It would be hard on their end to find another substitute teacher in the middle of the term. Be conscious of your students and their lessons.  Their experience will be the most negative one if you leave without warning. But if you have a serious illness or other emergency concerns that would impair your skill, that is one time you unfortunately cannot notify them. If you can prevent it, do not leave instantly; give yourself and the school weeks' or months' time of notice before making that resignation.

Procedure #2: Submit a letter of resignation. The school has the utmost right to know the reasons behind your leaving the profession. Draft a letter and explain why you decided to quit. Bear in mind that you are making a resignation letter not a letter of empathy. As much as possible keep it brief and clear, preferably written on a single page. You can cite some personal reasons that you think are acceptable. Also, remember to put in writing the specific date when you will leave so that the principal can prepare accordingly.

Procedure # 3: Tell your students and colleagues. Although this procedure is not necessary, it is only proper to inform them that you will soon be leaving the school. How to quit a teaching job is really difficult - especially when it is the time that you will share this to almost everybody. But to avoid problems and bad assumptions why you quit, it is your duty to share your reasons. You can give them your business cards in return to maintain communication despite if you are no longer associated with the educational institution.

Regardless of any profession, quitting is really hard to do. But if you have good reasons, the least we can do is to leave your former workplace with no traces of negativity. So, the procedures stated must be done with courtesy and right manners. Following them can pave the way of a decent and ethical procedure as to how to quit a teaching job.
